You're looking at part of the hull of the battleship, which still contains the bodies of about 1100 men, who remain where they fell. It also contains approx 500,000 gallons of oil, that still oozes out today, since 1941.

11/12/06 Hot Hot Hot

Melbourne managed to equal a record set in December 1953 yesterday, the mercury hit 42.1 degrees C, and bushfires are destroying large areas of Victoria, about 200,000 hectares so far. So not good.

Whilst the sensible thing would be to go to the beach we found ourselves sweating (along with the Aussies I might add) trying to have a picnic as BBQs are banned, fire risk, we also shared our food with about 500 flies, nice. After two hours we headed back to the air-conditioned heaven of our apartment. They forcast a cool change and it arrived at about 6pm taking it down from 42 to 22 degrees in 40 minutes, if you think the weather in England is odd.........

December 9th 2006

Bushfires raging across Voctoria have meant Melbourne's CBD looks like this, smells like a bonfire and best to stay indoors......compare to the picture below.
